• Ragdoll Kittens $250.00 --- Buyer Beware

Have you seen Ragdoll kittens advertised for $250, and wondered why they were so much cheaper than the breeder you found on the internet, or the breeder your Vet recommended. Boy you sure could save a lot of money! Think about it though! Why the difference in price? Well a couple of things could be happening.

First and the most likely is they do not have papers. With out papers you do not know that you really are purchasing a Ragdoll. Papers cost the breeder very little money. Under $20.00 for the whole litter so this is NOT an excuse. The kitten was probably sold to this person with a contract that would require them to alter it by a certain date. When this is the case, the breeder withholds the papers until proof of Alter is provided. So of course there are no papers. If this is the case, then the person you are purchasing from is breeding illegally. She/He signed a contract with the breeder that they would have their kitten altered in the specified time. They have no rights to breed this cat as it was purchased as a pet. How can you now trust them to honor whatever guarantee they have made to you on the kittens HEALTH and that it is indeed a Ragdoll.

BUT THEY HAVE PAPERS you say!! Well where are these so called papers from.. There are a couple of registries where you can register your alley cat, and are NOT recognized registries. Ask for the name of the registry and look it up on the internet.
Call them and make sure that this IS a registered Cattery!!!

Another reason given is that the breeder that they bought their cats from never sent them the papers. This is just a line. You could verify it by asking for the name of the Cattery that the parents are from. If they won't give you that info then it is probably not the problem at all and they are breeding illegaly. If they do give you the name, call the breeder and make sure this kitten is being sold to you legally. Ask what cat associations this breeder is a member of to ensure that they are true registered breeders. In North America the most popular are: Cat Fancy Association (CFA) The International Cat Association (TICA) Canadian Cat Association (CCA). Don't be shy. Look them up on the internet or give them a call.

The most probable reason is the parents are not true Ragdolls and cannot be registered. Maybe on parent was a Ragdoll or they just look like a Ragdoll.

Registering kittens costs under $20.00 per litter, so why not register them? You cannot register kittens that you have no Breeding rights too and you cannot register if the kitten's parents are not true Ragdolls.

Without papers, you are probably buying a mix breed kitten for top dollar. Not a true Ragdoll in any sense. If you want to pay top dollar for a mixed breed, go to the Humane Society, or look in your local newspaper. They have a lot of blue eyed cats, but none with true Ragdoll temperament, low shed coat, and the wonderful personalities. The qualities that you read about over and over in magazines, and on the internet. You may say, pet prices are just too much for a Ragdoll kitten. Yes, the Ragdoll does cost a fair amount of money but you are paying for quality. The breeder has raised your kitten on the proper food. Provided a save and sociable environment. Had the best of vet care and above all will provide you with a very good health guarantee. These things all cost money and are done to give you the healthiest kitten possible. Even if you purchase these kittens at $250, I'll bet shots, worming, and flea protection are not included, or a health guarantee. Caring for 1 kitten properly and providing it with top quality food and living conditions would cost more than this. If there is a guarantee, can you go back on them? Will they honor their contact? They didn't honor the contract with the person they bought their pet kittens from. So why would they honor their contract with you."
Buyer Beware" you know the old saying, " If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is ".

What about the breeder being registered with a valid cat registering organization? (CFA) Cat Fancy Association (TICA) The International Cat Association , (CCA) Canadian Cat Association etc. If they are not a registered cattery, how can the breeder be monitored to ensure breeding is being done properly? Who do they turn to for help when problems arise? Are they breeding with the interest of the cat's health in mind? How many litters a year is the moms having? Is there any inbreeding being done which can cause problems for the kittens down the road? If this is not a registered cattery then you just don't know!

So the next time you see a Ragdoll advertised for $250 ask yourself? "
Just what am I paying for, and what am I getting"? More than likely you are only getting a blue eyed cat!!! What is that worth to you? Ragdoll should come with papers, up to date on all shots, worming, no fleas or mites, and a health guarantee.
